Did some quick nails today for the Open Space PMF V (the 5th Prints & Multiples Fair) here in Baltimore. They’re loosely based off of this year’s promotional poster. It is a really amazing art fair - it gets better every year!
Haven’t painted my nails much lately, so I’m a little rusty.

a little sloppy but I haven’t done any nail art in 3 or 4 weeks!! :( sorry for the weird orange skin, the only photo I took of this was so off color balance ha

I didn’t have time to paint my nails yesterday, but my homie Beth complimented my nails anyway, because she’s sweet like that.
So, before I slap some lacquer on, here are my naked nails! Obviously some grow faster than others, haha.
(They’re shiny because of the nail treatment I use, OPI Nail Envy).

Always nice to get a photo in actual sunlight instead of my crappy wonky lighting setup!

I got mad at these for being sloppy, so I wiped them off ~10 minutes after I did them…what have we learned? Don’t drink and do tape gradient nail art. I’m an idiot.

itsrayychool asked: Hey your nail art is so inspiring!!! I was wondering what brand of holographic nail polish you use?
Hi! I use two different shades from the Color Club Halo Hues collection - Angel Kiss (blue) and Harp On It (silver). They are amazing! Check out the whole collection, they have a really wide range of colors.
I also have Layla Mercury Twilight - it was my first holo - but it is more expensive and a little patchy on the application. Still decent though.
I’ve heard good things about Urban Outfitters’ holos - though I haven’t personally tried them - but may be worth checking the sale bins next time you’re in UO!

The Holy Nail Quiz
1. First nail polish
Revlon Blue Lagoon
2. Sickest blue
This is a really hard one, since blues are my favorite…but I use Urban Outfitters “Blue Velvet” soooo much, and it rules in every way, so…
3. Number of bottles owned
I recently passed 100, not sure of the exact number currently
4. Priciest bottle
My first holo, Layla’s “Mercury Twilight” - though I don’t really use it, now that I have a few of Color Club’s holos.
5. Cheapest bottle
Most of mine are pretty cheap - I guess any of the handful of $1 Wet N Wilds I have. Those polishes are in heavy rotation for me - they may be cheap, but they have good colors and formulas!
6. Favorite indie brand
I don’t own any :(
7. Favorite mainstream brand
This is a tough one…I probably most appreciate Sinful Colors, though, due to price and having some really interesting choices!
8. Best glitter
I prefer flakies when it comes to glitter, and for me it’s a tie between Essie Shine Of The Times and Zoya Maisie.
9. Back up shade
Not sure what this means, but if it means go-to color when you don’t know what to do, I’d have to say CQ’s Blue Creme. It’s just a Rite Aid cheapo polish, but damn do I love this color. Great application, too. It’s the perfect sky blue. I use it so much!
10. Least favorite nail polish trend
I kind of like all of them at least a little bit
11. Favorite celebrity nail art
um mine obviously *hair toss*
12. Remover of choice
Evil, cuticle-drying, ruthless pure acetone. Anything else takes too long!
13. Cuticle treatment
I use cuticle oil (whatever I find at the beauty supply store) but also Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. I like the Burt’s Bees stuff because I can use it throughout the day without having messy oily hands!
14. Longest you’ve ever spent doing your nails
I don’t know, all day long? It’s a problem. I’m so slow. And I mess up like 3 times before I get it decent…
15. Biggest nail art pet peeve
When I spend forever on a design and get it juuuuust right and then it doesn’t matter because all I can look at are my thirsty sad lil cuticles. It’s gotten better lately but ughhhhh makes me crazy.
16. Best runway nail art
I don’t keep up with fashion stuff really but I love these I saw floating around a while back
17. Nail art crush
Madeline Poole, master of the universe

katie-my-lady asked: I keep my nails short out of habit so what would you recommend as far as designs for and care of short nails?
It depends on personal taste - would you want the design to make them seem longer, or just run with their actual shape?
If you want to make them seem elongated, a left-to-right gradient or maybe thin vertical stripes would probably do that!
Personally, I kind of like when short nails have designs that may or may not be fashion/nail art no-nos: for example, an outlined design, like I did on my friend Laura’s nails here.
The design definitely doesn’t make her nails look longer, but I think they look cool that way.
Also, I’d give the ol’ turquoise nail a shot, or just throw on a deep jewel tone color and load it up with flakies and glitter so each nail looks like a little opal. Both of those would make your nails look like little dots of beautiful stone at the end of each finger!
If you’re looking for inspiration, I’d also check out a nail art forum like RedditLaqueristas
and search “short” in their search bar - lots of pictures and ideas of designs for little nails!
As far as caring for your short nails, I’d imagine it’d be the same as taking care of long nails - keep your cuticles moisturized (using cuticle oil or cream), filing and buffing as needed, using strengtheners if your nails peel or are weak. When you paint your nails, use a good base coat to prevent staining, like Orly Bonder. I’m definitely not great at nail care to be honest - I need to work on that!

I had to rush my nails for the House of Cards wrap party last night, but it was a dimly-lit soiree, so no big deal. I really wanted to paint red on the underside, but ran out of time!
